THE ARTISAN TECHNIQUES
“There is always so much to be grateful for, to learn, to explore, people to meet, techniques to improve and technology to embrace. This is my personal inspiration that keeps Uma and Leopold collections innovative with beauty, creativity, style and quality beyond everything else, much love. Terima Kasih Bali”
Kerawang is a historic art, that has been passed on from generations since the 17th century. It’s a customized process for embroidery involving a pattern, design or motif, firstly must be made in a block graph on paper and the desired fabric cut for the use of the base material. With the fabric prepped, we remove some layers of thread from the fabric with precision and when there is enough available space on the cloth, it is ready to be embroidered and the spaces filled with motifs.
Screen printing requires another method to that of textile printing.
The screen is made from mesh stretched over a frame. The process involves using a woven mesh supporting an ink-blocking stencil to apply the ink onto the material. This traditional technique results in a unique print design adding to any plain basic medium and with most accurate precision bringing to life contours and unmatched color intensity.
We draw each motive with precision according to the pattern of the cloth, before hand making embroidery.
